The City of Lawrenceville received accolades for two of its annual community events, Hometown Christmas Parade and Rock’n Ribville, as among the best in the Southeast. The Hometown Christmas Parade took home the Gold for Best Photo (photo taken by Brad Fryman) and Bronze for Best New Event and Rock’n Ribville received the Bronze Award for Best Event (under $75,000 budget). The awards ceremony was held in conjunction with the 14th Annual SFEA Conference that includes festival and event organizers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.
“The quality of submissions continues to increase each year making it more difficult for the judges to select the winners,” noted Brenda Pierce, executive director for SFEA. “Of course, to ‘win gold,’ becomes all the sweeter when there is additional competition and the recognition a festival receives for winning is priceless.”
The Kaleidoscope Award winners are chosen by a panel of experts in event planning, marketing and tourism. The judges scored each entry based on originality, creativity, media impact, volunteer programs, and the overall impact to the community.
Lawrenceville City Manager, Chuck Warbington added, “Events hosted by the City are some of the greatest contributors to building a community that maintains a strong sense of place, in turn, creating a more vibrant and attractive community. We are so proud of every team member that helps make these events possible and appreciate the hard work they put in day after day.”
