LAWRENCEVILLE (GWINNETT/METRO ATLANTA) GA – August 8, 2017
The City of Lawrenceville Mayor and Council approved a $182-million budget for the 2017/18 fiscal year (Sept – Aug). This vote comes on the heels of Council’s decision to reduce the City’s tax rate and makes Lawrenceville’s budget one of the largest municipal budgets in metro Atlanta. This vote was taken in a public meeting on August 7, 2017, and was made at the recommendation of staff and with significant input from the City’s newly formed Financial Citizen’s Review Committee.
“We are grateful to the staff, the Financial Citizen’s Review Committee and the public for their input during this process,” said Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson. “The adoption of this budget will allow us to continue our focus on a strong public safety operation as well as support enhanced services for our businesses and residents with new and improved infrastructure improvements and new facilities for those workers who provide electric, gas, fleet and sanitation services.”
Additional investments include technology improvements for safety and efficiency in customer service, the preparation and updating of guiding documents like the City’s ordinances and Comprehensive Plan that direct daily operation and business development in the community, and the continued expansion and growth of the City’s community engagement and event programs for residents and visitors.
“Having a robust and balanced financial plan in place that will properly address the needs of each department and operation is essential to our ability to provide not just adequate but exceptional service to the community,” shared Chuck Warbington, City Manager. “Thanks to the Mayor, Council, Committee members and citizens for your faith and trust in us to do our jobs with excellence.”
The August 7 meeting will be available for video viewing online within 48 hours. For more information on the City of Lawrenceville and how funds are invested back into the community, please visit the website at www.lawrencevillega.org.
