About Our Mayor

Mayor Rex A. Millsaps, a Lawrenceville resident since 1964, owns Millsaps & Company, P.C., a local public accounting firm. Rex graduated from Central Gwinnett High School in 1969 and Georgia State University in 1977.
He and wife Sheila Wages Millsaps have four children—Andy, Chad, Melissa, and Karla. They all graduated Central Gwinnett High School and live nearby. Rex and Sheila are also the proud grandparents of Anderson, Avery, Grayson, Ava, Eliana, and Kinsley.
Rex, Sheila, and Karla belong to Sunrise Baptist Church in Lawrenceville.
A United States Marine Corps Veteran, Rex is a member of Lawrenceville Lodge #131 F&A.M. A past President of the Lawrenceville Jaycees and the Lawrenceville Youth Association, he additionally served as the charter President of the Gwinnett/Alcovy Scottish Rite Association.
Rex served in the Georgia House of Representatives 1983 and 1984 as well as on the Gwinnett County Merit System Board from 1995 to 2006 (Chairman from 2001 to 2006). He is a former member of the Gwinnett County Board of Elections and the Lawrenceville Planning and Zoning Board.
Six days after his Mayoral Election on November 7, 2006, Rex was appointed by the Lawrenceville City Council to fill the unexpired term of Mayor Bobby Sikes, who passed away on November 4, 2006 after serving the City of Lawrenceville as a Councilman and Mayor for almost 18 years.

As Mayor and President of the Cramac Plantation Homeowners Association, Rex appreciates the value of strong neighborhoods. His primary focus is to preserve the quality of life in Lawrenceville by maintaining the safety and appeal of our neighborhoods as ideal places to raise families.
