In addition to fighting fires or investigating their cause, the Gwinnett County Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel administer emergency medical services, teach prevention strategies, and inspect new structures for code compliance.

The Gwinnett Police Department operates the Animal Shelter to enforce animal control laws and to shelter animals that have strayed, become lost, or been turned in for adoption. Dedicated local rescue groups play a key role in reducing the number of animals we must take in.
