WEATHER PERMITTING OVERNIGHT LANE CLOSURES ON SR 316

Lawrenceville, Ga. – Overnight lane closures are scheduled tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday along State Route 316 as part of the construction project to change two existing intersections to one interstate style interchange. The existing intersection of State Route 316 at Collins Hill and State Route 316 at State Route 20 will become one interchange.

The left lane of SR 316 in each direction from SR 20 to Hi-Hope Road will close overnight Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. the following morning. At times, the left turn lame from SR 316 east to SR 20 north will be impacted. Delays are expected in the area, please avoid the work zone if possible These are the only lane closures planned this week on this project.

Once the project is completed, motorists on will access SR 316 via ramps instead of the existing intersections. “This project will build one interchange or exit to allow traffic from 316 to access 20 or to access Collins Hill Road using a system of long ramps. The existing signalized intersections at State Route 20 and at Collins Hill Road will be removed as the interchange is finished. It is similar to the system we have along I-85 from SR 120 down to Pleasant Hill Road. You get off the mainline of I-85 south at SR 120 and use the parallel roads to access the exit you need,” explained Bayne Smith, Georgia DOT District Engineer.

This $37.4 million construction project includes 2.23 miles of new roadway and two new bridges over SR 316. The project completion date is December 31, 2014 and the contractor is GP’S Enterprises, Inc. of Auburn.

On Tuesday, July 31, voters will decide if 12 designated districts across Georgia will be authorized to collect a one-cent sales tax for the next 10 years to be devoted exclusively to local and regional transportation projects. Funds collected in a district could only be spent in that same district and only to move forward projects chosen by local elected officials. More than 1,600 such local projects throughout the state have been selected by city and county leaders.
