The City of Lawrenceville currently has a daily demand of approximately 2 million gallons per day. Water is obtained from two different sources, City owned groundwater wells and surface water purchased from Gwinnett County.
The City of Lawrenceville has a total of seven groundwater wells in operation. The oldest well in the City's inventory dates back to 1914. These wells are located throughout the City. An average of 500,000 gallons per day is pumped from these seven wells.
The additional 1.5 million gallons of water is purchased from Gwinnett County at the retail rate. The City maintains seven interconnections with Gwinnett County for purchased water and one additional connection where the City sells water back to Gwinnett County.
Water Treatment Facilities
The City maintains two water treatment facilities for treatment of groundwater. Mahlon Burson Water Treatment Facility is located at 750 Winer Industrial Way Lawrenceville, GA 30046 and Rhodes Jordan Water Treatment Facility is located at 90 East Crogan Street Lawrenceville, GA 30046, inside Rhodes Jordan Park.
The Water Department is actively looking for additional groundwater sources to further reduce our dependency on Gwinnett County and Lake Lanier.
