Building Permit

Commercial Structures

Submit a completed building permit application, two sets of building plans, and a digital copy that has been reviewed and approved by the Gwinnett County Fire Marshal. If the Building Official has any comments, they will need to be addressed prior to approval.

Once approved, the submitter will be notified that the permit is ready to be issued. Commercial building permits will only be issued to state licensed General Contractors or state licensed sub-contractors when a permit for one trade is requested. Permit fees must be paid at the time of permit issuance. Please contact the department at [email protected] for fee requirements.

Approvals

Additional agency approvals may be required depending on the type of project proposed, such as Gwinnett Environmental Health Department, Georgia Department of Agriculture, and Gwinnett County Water and Sewer.  

Pre-Construction Meeting

Prior to construction for new buildings over 10,000 square feet, a pre-construction meeting must be held with the Building Official.

Residential Structures

Submit a completed application and 1 set of building plans (new construction only) and a digital copy. If the Building Official has any comments, they will need to be addressed prior to approval.

Once approved by the Building Official, the submitter will be notified that the permit is ready to be issued. Permits will only be issued to state licensed General Contractors or the homeowner if a Homeowner Affidavit is provided. Subcontractor Affidavit

All state licensed subcontractors working under a permit held in the name of a General Contractor must complete a Subcontractor Affidavit.

Submitted Plans

All submitted plans must be drawn to a standard scale and must be accurate.
