Criminal investigation divison (cid)
The Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is comprised of a division commander, one lieutenant, one sergeant six detectives, two crime analysts, and two Crime Scene Officers. The Criminal Investigation Division is responsible for investigating all crimes that happen in the jurisdictional boundaries of the City of Lawrenceville. Additionally, our Property and Evidence and Pawn Units also fall within the CID umbrella.
Lt. Long is currently the Criminal Investigation Division Commander. Lt. Long began his law enforcement career with the Lawrenceville Police Department in 1987. He has served in many rolls with the department over his career to include Uniform patrol, DUI Task Force, Accident Investigations, Criminal Investigations, Motorcycle Officer, and Investigator with Gwinnett County Drug Task Force. He has supervised as a sergeant Uniform Patrol, DUI Task Force, and Gwinnett Metro Drug Task Force. As a lieutenant he was the shift commander for Team #3 in Uniform Division, and currently as the commander of the Criminal Investigations Division. He has been a P.O.S.T. and Firearms Instructor since 1994. Lt. Long holds advanced and supervisory certifications through P.O.S.T. He completed the Professional Management Program through Columbus State University. He is also a veteran of the United State Marine Corps.

Sergeant Pauly is a supervisor in the Criminal Investigation Division. Sgt. Pauly has over 16 years of law enforcement experience. She started her law enforcement career with the City of Conyers Police Department in 1996. Prior to joining the Lawrenceville Police Department, Sgt. Pauly worked with the Duluth Police Department where she obtained the rank of Corporal and served as a Field Training Officer. Additionally, she worked in the Special Operations Unit, where she worked traffic enforcement, mounted patrol, and obtained her certification as an Accident Reconstruction Specialist. She later transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division, where she remained until she came to work for the Lawrenceville Police Department in 2016. During her tenure with the Lawrenceville Police Department, Sergeant Pauly worked as a uniform patrol officer and Detective until she was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. She currently oversees the operational aspect of criminal investigations, crime scene investigations, crime analysts, and property/evidence. Sergeant Pauly is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree at Columbus State University.

Pawn Unit
The Pawn Unit is responsible for ensuring compliance of city ordinances of all Pawn Shops and Precious Metal Dealers operating within the City of Lawrenceville. The Pawn Unit plays an important role in identifying and securing stolen property via electronic monitoring of all pawn transactions occurring within the City of Lawrenceville. The Pawn Unit routinely works with outside jurisdictions to facilitate recovering of stolen property.

Property and Evidence Unit
The Property and Evidence Unit is responsible for receiving, organizing, and maintaining all property and evidence turned in by Police Department personnel.
