In 2015, Retiring City Council Member Marie Beiser was honored with a road named in her honor for her seven years of service to the City. Having been at the forefront in the development of the Georgia Gwinnett College Corridor, she was presented with a street sign, “Marie Beiser Way,” which will be placed on a street there to honor her work.
“She has been very instrumental in standing up for what she believes … and, as mayor pro tem, always willing to serve as an ambassador to the city when I was otherwise occupied,” Johnson said. “We know that she will continue to stay involved in activities in the city.”
Having served on the council since 2009, Mrs. Beiser also was a member of the city’s Downtown Development Authority.
“She was our teacher on the council,” City Councilman Tony Powell said. “I’m very proud of all she’s accomplished on this council.”
“I’m proud to be the newest member of the ‘Marie Beiser Fan Club” on the council,” Councilman Keith Roche said. “Marie is a wonderful lady.”
“I want to thank everyone for such wonderful words,” Mrs. Beiser said. “We’re doing everything we can to move forward. … I have served with this group … where there is no ‘I’ in ‘TEAM.’ It’s been my pleasure to serve … and I appreciate people coming here from ‘my group.’”
Joined by her husband, Bob, Mrs. Beiser was presented a plaque for her years of dedicated service by Mayor Judy Jordan Johnson.
