Hilton Tapestry project and public parking deck begin construction.
The City of Lawrenceville together with development partners, NorthPointe Hospitality Management, LLC, broke ground on a new 380-space public parking deck and combined 120-room boutique Hilton Tapestry Hotel called “The Lawrence” at the corner of Crogan and Jackson Street. The project has been in the design phase since its zoning unveil at the City Council meeting earlier this year.
City Manager Chuck Warbington said of the project, “The City and our Downtown Development Authority (DDA) are continuing to work innovatively with solid developers like NorthPointe to realize a vision for community engagement in our core. This hotel project provides the area market with a much needed option for overnight-stay while delivering additional parking options to serve our community on a daily basis.”
Lee Merritt, Chair of the DDA, added, “We are excited to see this quality business type join our downtown community as it will complement the restaurant, retail and entertainment scene already thriving here. Growing economic impact is a goal of the DDA and we look forward to achieving that through this project.”
NorthPointe Hospitality Management, LLC, is an independent and specialized developer of hotels that has solid experience in renovation and historic development of properties. The design of “The Lawrence” is unique due to its architectural nod to Lawrenceville’s old Genesco Shoe Factory that was located not too far from this location. Its name - also birthed out of the City’s history - is pulled from Captain James Lawrence for which the City is equally named.
“The Hilton Tapestry Collection was an outstanding choice for Lawrenceville because it allowed for the independent design and experience that City officials were seeking while guaranteeing the consistent image, service and delivery of the Hilton brand through that unique experience,” said Greg Winey President and Principal, NorthPointe Hospitality Management, LLC. “We are excited to get to work on this project and look forward to serving the Lawrenceville community with a high end, boutique hotel backed by “World Class” Hilton product and service.”
Construction teams will begin the work following the ground breaking. The parking deck is expected to be ready for patrons to use by fall of 2020 with the hotel opening early 2021. City officials mentioned that parking on this site will not be available during construction and encouraged businesses, patrons and residents to engage parking options at the Lawrenceville Lawn or the free public parking deck that sits behind the Aurora Theatre with access off Chestnut and Crogan Streets, just before Boulder Creek Coffee.
