The City of Lawrenceville Natural Gas Department has received multiple national safety awards in recent weeks. The City was awarded the American Public Gas Association’s Safety Management Excellence Award, an award given to one APGA member system in the country that consistently operates at the highest levels, clearly establishing the system as an achiever of excellence in the field of Safety Management.
In an award notification, Erin Kurilla, APGA Vice President of Operations and Pipeline Safety stated, “The team was impressed by your dedication to your employees’ safety and providing them information in an easy to understand format. Your “Think Safety” board is a simple solution to share alerts, safety issues, and near misses. Your “Competent Person of the Month” award is another excellent way to get employee buy-in through positive recognition and helps cement management commitment to these programs.”
The Natural Gas Department was also one of 12 systems nationwide to be awarded the APGA System Operational Achievement Recognition (SOAR) Gold Level Award. Gold level winners earned 97 – 100% of possible excellence points in the four areas of system integrity, system improvement, employee safety, and workforce development. This award was presented virtually at the 2020 APGA Operations Conference.
And finally, the City of Lawrenceville Natural Gas Department received the APGA Annual Safety Award for the sixth year in a row. This award is presented annually to a select group of natural gas providers who have maintained the highest performance standards and safety records for their respective categories. Standards are based on a calculation of man-hours worked and hours lost to injury.
“I am beyond impressed with the safety record of our gas professionals,” said Barry Mock, Assistant City Manager. “Six consecutive years of safety awards show that safety is a top priority. But to receive two other national awards in the same year, one being the top national award, is an indicator to our customers and taxpayers of our stellar team in the Natural Gas Department. Congratulations to Gas Director Todd Hardigree and his staff.”
The Mayor and Council recognized the members of the Gas Department for this award and their continued commitment to safety at a recent City Council meeting.
