On November 28, Cornerstone Community and Cornerstone Coworking hosted a public meet and greet with the final candidate for the City of Lawrenceville Police Department’s Police Chief, John Mullin. Cornerstone Community residents welcomed the new chief by lighting their building blue for the evening.
Community members enjoyed refreshments and listened to remarks from John Mullin. Attendees had the opportunity to ask questions about his vision for the police department as its future chief. Mullin’s remarks stressed his commitment to community engagement, staff development and training, and transparency. Mullin shared his plans to spend his first 100 days on a listening tour, both internal and external, to hear from employees and stakeholders and gain a complete insight into the department and the community.
“I enjoyed meeting with members of the community and engaging in meaningful discussions,” said sole finalist for Chief of Police, John Mullin. “I look forward to continuing this process in the coming weeks and months.”
Coming to Lawrenceville's leadership from Forsyth County, Mullin has been working directly with county management leading the Code Compliance, Animal Control Services, and Park Rangers Division. Additionally, Mullin served 15 years within the Sandy Springs Police Department and as one of its original 86 officers, leaving that agency at the rank of Major. Within the Fulton County Police Department, he spent nine years as a uniform patrol officer.
In addition to his law enforcement experience, Mullin has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and a master's degree in Public Administration from Columbus State University. Mullin also graduated from the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville and the Senior Management Institute for Police.
John Mullin will be sworn in as the City of Lawrenceville Police Department’s Police Chief on December 14 and begin his role on December 16. The community may welcome him at a reception at City Hall at 6 pm on December 14th, prior to the City Council meeting.
