In August 2022, the City of Lawrenceville and Impact46 launched the Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders (L3), a leadership development program intended to develop and promote student success by cultivating a legacy of leaders in Lawrenceville. In March 2023, the inaugural cohort of 17 students successfully completed the eight-month program.
At the March City Council meeting, Lawrenceville Mayor and Council recognized the outstanding students for their accomplishments throughout the program. The 17 students from Central Gwinnett and Discovery high schools, and Gwinnett School of Mathematics, Science & Technology built leadership skills, completed community service projects, and expanded their civic awareness during the eight months.
“Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders engages our future leaders within the six sectors of Lawrenceville, which include government, non-profits, local churches and businesses, the school system, and our neighborhoods,” said Mayor David Still. “It is great to see the youth investing in their community and we are so proud to call these students the future of Lawrenceville.”
The 2022 Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders are Kennedy Bryant, Ashley Burton, Genesis Cruz, Aissata Hann, Kevin Jacob, Aiden Keizer, Nadia Mathews, Hannah Noble, Saumya Palipudi, Khenya Robinson, Mehek Saha, Abhi Saji, Shivani Shreedhar, Chameli Tissera, Eesh Trivedi, Sohum Trivedi, and Valery Valdez Ramos. 11 members from the inaugural cohort will be invited to participate in the L3 Mentorship Program.
“Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders offers an opportunity for students to develop essential leadership skills and engage with their community throughout the school year,” said Jen Young, Director of Impact46. “Impact46 and the City of Lawrenceville are dedicated to continue building the future leaders of Lawrenceville.”
Rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors from Central Gwinnett, Discovery, GSMST, Maxwell, or Phoenix high schools are eligible to apply for the 2023 program. Online applications and nominations will be accepted April 10 – April 21, 2023 at www.lville.city/legacy-leaders. The 2023 class of Lawrenceville Legacy Leaders will be announced over the summer and selected students will spend the 2023-24 school year representing their individual schools as they build a sense of place through community engagement and civic awareness.
